The director of this film wanted his first scene to be perfect, but he went too far: 9 hours of filming and one arm in a sling.

A brilliant adaptation of the story Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank RedemptionWritten by Stephen King and published in the collection different seasons, Les Evadés has become an absolute cult piece over the years and by word of mouth. Lyrical, brutal and exciting performance, performed by the fabulous actors Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in the main role, which will even enter the prestigious film catalog of the Library of Congress in December 2015.

Freeman’s intervention to significantly change the finale did not change the film’s ruined fortunes at the box office: it did not even bring in $30 million. A tough first test series for Frank Darabont, who made his first feature film here, even turning a Stephen King story into a short film in 1983 titled The Woman in the Room.

Passionate about the original material, Darabont wrote the screenplay for Les Evadés in just 15 days. Since this was his first theatrical film, he wanted everything to be perfect. About Andy Dufresne (Robbins), a young banker sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife and her lover, and Red Redding (Freeman), a man imprisoned for more than 20 years, Darabont wanted the former. The scene between the two is really powerful.

The element is all the more important in his eyes because it introduced the entire central theme of the film. “The theme of the film is friendship and how it transforms two people who learn trust, hope and will to transform their lives” she said.

The first exchange between the two characters that occurs is when Andy calls out to Red in the Shawshank Redemption Yard while he is playing baseball.

It took no less than 9 hours to shoot this scene. For nine hours, Freeman has to throw the baseball over and over again. Despite being tired, the actor did not complain. But the next day he showed up with his left hand — he’s left-handed — in a sling because so many shots had damaged his arm. Fortunately, this did not have any serious consequences for him and did not have a lasting effect on the filming.
