Sliders: 25 years later, what has become of Jerry O’Connell, the Quinn Mallory of parallel universes?

Jerry O’Connell was the hero of Quinn Mallory’s series Sliders, Parallel Universes, a physics genius who traveled from world to world in alternate realities, hoping to return to his original world with each “slide”.

The concept of the show was similar to that of Code Quantum, except that Sam Beckett only traveled through time and – with a few exceptions – limited to not being able to go back further than his birth date. Sliders pushes the concept with multi-world immersion!

A reboot of the series could see the light of day in 2018!

Sliders, parallel worlds

The series ran for 3 seasons on FOX before being canceled and retained by the Sci Fi Channel. As a result, the casting of Sliders was partially changed for Season 4. At its end in 1999, Jerry O’Connell and his brother Charlie (Colin in the series) also slammed the door. The show will have its 5th and final season with a new cast. Only Clevant Derricks, who played the role of Rembrandt, acted in the entire series.

After the sliders, career

Since 2000, his fans have found Jerry O’Connell in Brian De Palma’s Mission to Mars, but very quickly the projects became more confidential or low-quality (Kangaroo Jack, Room 6, Fat Slugs) and he gradually disappeared. Several cinemas. Fortunately, she found herself in the 2002 to 2007 series, Proof in Support, in which she played Inspector Woody Hoyt, the lover of Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh, played by Jill Hennessy.

Piranha 3D

After a few more questionable choices – his performance in Fat Slags – Alexander Aja recruited O’Connell to suffer the sad fate of Piranha 3D and he attempted a parallel return to the small screen with the police comedy The Defenders, which was quickly canceled (2010 – 2011), as well As a comedy We Are Men (2013).

In the animated universe adapted from DC Comics, he alternates between voicing Shazam, then Superman, and starring in another pop culture monument: Star Trek. O’Connell voices Commander Jack Ransom in the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020 and still running) and appeared in a voice cameo in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He celebrates his 50th anniversary on February 17.

And before the slider?

Jerry O’Connell was spotted among many candidates for Rob Reiner’s Stand By Me, his first film role at just 11 years old. Two years later, he was cast as the star of the TV series Superkid, a teenager with superpowers.

Jerry O’Connell Found Something (“Stand By Me”)

He followed that up with another comedy, Camp Wilder, before becoming a Montana ranger in the TV movie The Ranger, the Cook and the Hole in the Sky (1995), the year he was hired by Sliders. During his time on the series, he directed Strange Joy’s Apartment (1996), played quarterback Frank Cushman in Jerry Maguire (1996), and appeared in Scream 2 (1997).

Then the series ended and you know the rest.
