Unidos do Viradouro is the big winner of the Rio Carnival 2024. The counting of scores took place on the afternoon of Wednesday 22nd, for the first time in Cidade do Samba, in the capital of Rio, after a decision taken by the president of Liesa (Liga Independent of Samba Schools).

The Niterói school was the last to pass through the avenue on the second night of the Grupo Especial parades and brought the ground to the avenue Arroboboi, Dangbé, on the energy of the vodum serpent cult and on the arrival of the original cult from the kingdom of Dahomey, in Africa, in the terreiros of Bahia.

Under the guidance of carnival artist Tarcísio Zanon, Viradouro brought an explosion of colors to Sapucaí, going beyond the traditional red and white, as well as fluorescent lighting to ensure the brightness of the wings and allegories even at dawn. The school also has one of the most famous names on the drums, maestro Ciça, and the actress Érika Januza as the godmother of the drums.

This is Viradouro’s third title. The association was twice champion of the Esoecial Group, in 1997 and 2020, also with the carnival artist Tarcísio Zanon. Last year Viradouro won second place, behind Imperatriz Leopoldinense, by just a tenth of a difference.
