‘I Can’t Stand It’: Why Yellowstone’s Creator Doesn’t Like Forrest Gump

Everyone (or almost everyone) loves Forrest Gump. Robert Zemeckis’ feature film, which has become a classic of American cinema, tells the story of a simple-minded man (Tom Hanks) who experienced some of the greatest events in the American history of the second half of the 20th century.

Therefore, Forrest Gump is a movie that almost everyone agrees with, but that doesn’t mean everyone loves it. Thus, Taylor Sheridan — the creator of the Yellowstone series — is among a minority of moviegoers who hate the movie, as he explained in the podcast.

A guest on the Joe Regan Experience show, the American screenwriter talked about a Robert Zemeckis film that he revealed he hated. “The Holy Grail for me as a storyteller is to entertain, educate and enlighten… Don’t give anyone answers, just ask them lots of questions”.

I can’t stand the thought of paying someone to tell me what to do. This is why I hated Forrest Gump. Is this smarmy idiot the only guy the world understands? …is he just going to run across America and everyone will follow him and that’s what’s going to heal the country? What the hell is this idea?
