Dune: part 2 It was released in cinemas with great success. And one of the differences of the sequence, highlighted by the director himself, was the landscape used in the recordings. Denis Villeneuve confirmed that the film’s cast spent almost a month filming in the desert.
Villeneuve praised the location and services provided by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission and UAE-based production company Epic Films in a behind-the-scenes promotional video. According to him, the Liwa Oasis in Abu Dhabi constitutes a substantial part of the landscape of the desert planet Arrakis, home to sandworms.
Dune is about the relationship between man and nature. It was important to me to bring that nature to the screen, to feel that there was something that feels real, that feels tactile.
Denis Villeneuve, director of Dune 2
He said this after shooting the first part for five days in the Abu Dhabi desert Dunethe entire cast and crew returned for the sequel and spent 27 days among the towering sand dunes that can reach 600 meters high.
The biggest challenge was logistics. The director ruled out filming in the same locations used in the first film. Therefore it was necessary to go deeper into the desert, near the border with Saudi Arabia. But all the effort seems to have been worth it. The information comes from Variety.
