Max will ban password sharing in 2024

The Max streaming service, which brings together the entire HBO Max and Discovery+ catalog on the same platform, officially debuted in Brazil at the end of February, but it may already be undergoing a major change. Warner Bros. president of global streaming and gaming Discovery’s JB Perrette said password sharing should be banned in 2024.

During JP Morgan’s Technology, Media & Telecom conference, JB Perrette said he sees the initiative as a “significant opportunity” after the platform recorded a loss of $55 million, more than R$272 million, in the last quarter of 2023.

Just as it happened with Netflix and is happening with Disney+ abroad, Max needs to implement the change little by little, preventing the initiative from sharing accounts in other territories during this year and 2025.

So far Max has not explained how it will prevent accounts from being used by people who don’t live in the same place. Netflix, for example, requires users to connect to the same local network once every 31 days, offering a small additional cost for those who want to share the same profile.
