Diniz rejects the reasons for last year’s Fla-Flu “it’s another story”

Fernando Diniz held a press conference and made it clear that he will not use last year’s final as motivation to reverse the score

After Fluminense’s new defeat in the classic, coach Fernando Diniz held a press conference and made it clear that he will not use last year’s final as motivation to reverse the 3-goal difference.

– The reasons have nothing to do with last year, we have to improve a lot compared to what happened in the match – said Diniz, who praised the team’s second half:

– Being a completely different team, with the kind of attitude… a similar attitude to the one we had in the second half. But it went much better than the first half. And then try to do something better. So last year has nothing to do with this year, it’s a different story.

With the defeat, Fluminense reached the milestone of 12 consecutive classics without a win and the coach admitted that the team has not developed the best football in head-to-head matches with regional rivals.

– A brand that annoys everyone, a negative brand. And we’re trying to get out of it. The classics that we didn’t win, we really deserved not to win. We played badly in most of the classics and that’s why we couldn’t win. We have to play well, score well, to increase our chances of winning.

Fluminense returns to the pitch next Saturday (16th) against Flamengo and will have to reverse a 3-goal lead and break the taboo of 12 classics without a win to reach the final of the Rio championship.
