Jimmy Kimmel was responsible for conducting the 96th edition of the Oscarwhich took place last Sunday, the 10th, and made controversial jokes, including one about drug addiction faced by Robert Downey Jr. in the past. The actor won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Oppenheimerfeature film directed by Christopher Nolan which also won the award for Best Film.
“This is the highest point in the long and illustrious career of Robert Downey Jr.“, said the presenter. “Or one of the highest”, he continued, making a kind of pun on the word “high”, which, in English, also means “drugged”. Downey touched his nose, and Kimmel took the opportunity to add: “Was that also on your nose or a move towards drug use that you made?”
In response, the actor made a gesture as if to say he wanted to speed up the presenter’s monologue. Kimmel even asked if Downey was carrying a thank you speech in his pocket or whether his penis was really that rectangular. Watch the moment:
