There are endings that make you laugh, there are endings that make you cry, there are endings that leave you speechless, and then there are endings that are perfect because they are all at the same time. This is the movie The Truman Show, released in October 1998 in France, starring Jim Carrey. And this is true.
What is the Truman Show in the history of cinema? It’s a show that chronicles the life of a man, Truman Burbank, from his birth. The “Geppetto” behind this show is named Kristoff, and he was the one who came up with the idea and recruited Truman when he was still a child. From the first cry at birth, the youngster is the hero of this reality show… except he doesn’t know it!
Truman’s world was turned upside down
A completely fake world was created around him, with huge footage, 5,000 hidden cameras filming 24 hours a day, and a huge number of actors paid to just bring it to life on a huge TV. As for Truman, he’s sure he’s living his “real life.”
Obviously, for the film to exist, there must be a disturbing element that alerts Truman, and that is the appearance of the father who manages to enter the set and meet his son. The security service intervenes and the young man realizes that something is wrong. This is the beginning of a huge question of the world for him.
A brilliant ending

Truman comes alive
At the end of the movie, Truman (the excellent Jim Carrey) ends up getting into a boat to escape this made-up world that he no longer understands. But when his boat hits a wall that looks like the horizon, he’s convinced that his worst fears have come true. Then Christophe (played by Ed Harris) steps in to convince her to stay in this comforting false world. But Truman chooses life, real life, and the Truman Show ends.
After a painful sequence and exchange, Truman finally agrees to “put on a show” before slamming the door on him, never to return to this artificial world. What will happen to him in real life? Will it have the power to survive? Of course, but that’s up to the viewer’s interpretation. A great moment in cinema.
