Jung Joon-Young left prison after five years; he was convicted of rape in the Burning Sun scandal
Jung Joon-YoungK-pop singer convicted of rape, left prison this Tuesday, 19th, after serving five years of sentence (via NME). According to the The Straits Timeshe was wearing a mask and a hat when leaving Mokpo Prison, in South Jeolla, and did not address reporters who were at the scene.
The musician was linked to the Burning Sun scandal in March 2019, when it was discovered that Jung recorded and shared videos of a rape in a message group with other K-pop names, including Seungriformerbig Bang.
Jung and other artists were accused of raping drunk and unconscious women in 2016. The musician was sentenced to six years in prison, but the defense managed to reduce the sentence to five years in May 2020.
The K-pop star rose to fame after participating in the reality show Superstar K in 2012. After the scandal became public, Jung retired in 2019.
Seungriin turn, left prison in February 2023, serving just 18 months of sentence for his involvement in Burning Sun.
