Suspected of being responsible for her ex-husband’s death, Daniel arrested for passport fraud, but can be released on bail

Daniele Sikkemaex-husband of the American gallery owner Brent Sikkema, murdered in January this year, he was arrested in WE for passport fraud. According to the Southern District Court, in New York, Daniel was arrested on Wednesday evening (20th), but could be released this Thursday (21st) on bail. If this happens, he must wear an electronic ankle bracelet.




Suspected of being the mastermind behind her ex-husband’s death, Daniel was indicted by the civil police of Rio de Janeiro. The gallery owner, who lived in the city, was found dead in January by a friend of hers in her home, with 18 stab wounds. The suspect currently lives in the United States and was located outside Brazil at the time of the crime.

Initially, according to investigations by the Rio police, the perpetrator of the crime, Alejandro Triana Forecast, killed the North American gallery owner on the orders of her ex-husband. Prevez, who had been living in Brazil since 2022, told police that Daniel sent the key to Brent’s house and set up a secure communication line between them to exchange information about the crime. Cubano had previously worked in the then couple’s home as a “handyman”.

According to information obtained from TVGloboAlejandro told the police that Daniel promised 200 thousand dollars (almost R$ 1 million, currently) to kill Brent. When Alejandro was arrested in Triângulo Mineiro, officers found around 30 thousand dollars on him. However, Alejandro will now face charges of intentional homicide.

Marriage crisis

During the divorce proceedings, Brent removed Daniel from his will. Until May 2022 he would be the largest beneficiary of the inheritance.

According to police, Daniel is the owner of two properties purchased by Brent in Cubaa villa and an attic, in Havana, worth $3 million (R$15 million). At the time of her purchase, the gallery owner had registered both houses in her husband’s name, which were subsequently registered in the name of her relatives.

Alejandro explained to the investigators that Daniel, when he ordered the crime, complained about the amount of pension Brent paid and declared that the gallery owner “I spent a lot of money on drugs, parties and prostitutes”.

Again according to the Cuban, Daniel would also be worried about Brent’s new relationshipwhich could jeopardize the division of assets in the event of divorce.

Remember the crime

Brent Sikkema was found dead with 18 stab wounds in his home in Jardim Botânico on January 15. Alejandro came from SĂŁo Paulo exclusively to commit the crime and spent the whole day lurking near the gallery owner’s home. Only in the early hours of January 15, Alejandro broke into the gallery owner’s home with a mixed key and left 14 minutes later.

Photos taken by Alejandro in the house show that the crime was attempted a month earlier. The investigation showed that on 11 December 2023 he was in the house in the Jardim Botânico, in the southern area of ​​the city, to attempt to commit the murder. To demonstrate his visit to the property, he made a selfie in the kitchen at home, smiling and giving a thumbs up.

Brent didn’t speak Portuguese but, according to friends, he felt welcomed in Brazil and came to the country for New Year’s Eve parties and Carnival. Brazilian artists who have worked with Brent, such as Luiz Zerbini AND Vik Munizmourned his death.
