The second film in the Shrek series consolidated its mark in cinema and won many fans, even being remembered as the best film in the series by a considerable part of the public and critics.
The film premiered in 2004 and had its first screening at the Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the most prestigious award, the Palme d’Or. Commercially it achieved great success, grossing $928.7 million at the box office.
The legacy of the animation is great and was a major milestone for the animation genre and DreamWorks studio’s biggest success to date. Now, 20 years after its release, Shrek 2 will be revived in theaters, to celebrate two decades. Unfortunately, so far only in the US. But to celebrate the franchise, how about we highlight who the voice actors were who gave voice to these beloved characters?
Who are the Brazilian voice actors of Shrek 2?
The film was dubbed at Double Sound Dubbing Studio, in Rio de Janeiro, and was directed by Marlene Costa. Let’s get to the main cast:
Shrek: Bussunda
The actor and comedian, famous for the Rede Globo comedy show “Casseta e Planeta”, gave the voice to the most famous ogre in animation. Bussunda played Shrek in the Brazilian version in the first and second films, he died prematurely of a heart attack in 2006. In the original the voice is by Mike Myers, known for the character of Austin Powers.
Donkey: Mário Jorge Andrade
A hugely beloved character in the series, Donkey in the original is played by comedy star Eddie Murphy. In Brazil, his voice actor is the same one who voices Murphy’s characters! In addition to being a comedian, Mário Jorge also lends his voice to the characters of John Travolta, Mark Hamill and Tom Mate in the Cars series.
Fiona: Fernanda Crispim
The heroine of the story is voiced by Fernanda Crispim. The voice actress and singer started dubbing early, at the age of 11, and she collects great characters.
She has already voiced Jordana Brewster in the Fast and Furious series, Kristen Stewart in Garganta do Diabo (2003) and Café Society. In the series, she is recognized as the voice of Sabrina: The Witch’s Apprentice (1997-2001), Claire in Me, the Boss and the Children (2001-2005), and the character Keiko in the anime Yu Yu Hakusho.
In the original, his voice is that of Cameron Diaz.

Puss in Boots: Alexandre Moreno
In the original, Puss in Boots is voiced by Spanish actor Antonio Banderas and, like Donkey, his Brazilian voice actor is the same one who voices the great actor. In addition to Banderas, Alexandre Moreno is famous for voicing him in films and series by comedians Steve Carell, Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller. In animation he voices Pinky from Pinky and the Brain (1995-1998), Alex from the Madagascar films and the protagonist of the Trigun anime, Vash the Stamped.
Prince Charming: Ettore Zuim
The prince is voiced by Ettore Zuim, famous for playing Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. He also voiced actor Owen Wilson in several films, such as “Marley and Me.”
In animation he voices Number 1 of the KND cartoon and the character Hercules in the Disney film of the same name.
In the original the voice is of the great actor Rupert Everett, famous for the film “My Best Friend’s Wedding”.

King Harold: Isaac Bardavid
A big name in Brazilian dubbing, Isaac voices Wolverine in several films and animations, the character Tigger from Winnie the Pooh and Skeletor in the “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” series.
He also voiced movie stars such as Anthony Hopkins and Christopher Lloyd.
Queen Lillian: Emilia Rey
The voice actress lends her voice to actress Karen Allen in two films of the Indiana Jones saga (“Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981) and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (2008)) in the role Marion Ravenwood.
In animation, she worked in “A Bug’s Life” (1998) as the Gypsy and in “Mulan” (1998) as the Matchmaker.
Fairy Godmother: Márcia Coutinho
Márcia has already voiced Cobie Smulders in several Marvel films, Elastigirl in “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2”, Garnet in “Steven Universe” and the character Gwen in the animated series “Drama Total”.

The film also features other secondary characters, such as Pinocchio, voiced by Manolo Rey, while the voices of the three little pigs are represented by José Luiz Barbeito in the role of Pratico, Duda Espinoza in the role of Cicerone, and once again José Luiz Barbeito lends his voice to Heitor. The Big Bad Wolf is voiced by Luiz Carlos Persy.
