The trailer for Hocus Pocus 2 brings back the Sanderson sisters

After years of speculation and rumors, the Hocus Pocus The sequel finally got real in December 2020, when, during one of its ad-filled Investor Days, Disney finally confirmed it was on the way. And the first trailer has been anticipated online, with a brief appearance by the Sanderson sisters, played as always with pure nerdy energy by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy.

It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th century sisters, and they want revenge. Now it’s up to three high school students to stop the hungry witches from causing a new kind of havoc in Salem before the dawn of All Saints’ Day.

From the look of this first sequence, it is the teenagers who unknowingly bring back the sisters (Becca from Whitney Peak, Izzy from Belissa Escobedo and Cassie from Lilia Buckingham) after discovering the candle and lighting it as part of Becca’s birthday ritual, hoping to activate the powers of the witches and achieve much more than they bargained for. They probably should have stayed with the movies.

The new film also stars Sam Richardson, Doug Jones (reprising his role from the original as Billy Butcherson), Hannah Waddingham, Froyan Gutierrez and Tony Hale. Anne Fletcher is directing, with the screenplay by Jen D’Angelo.

Hocus Pocus 2 arrives on Disney + on September 30th.
