“The Three Body Problem” is Netflix’s hit sci-fi series that transports viewers to a universe of mystery.

Auggie Salazar is a book man
In the Netflix production, Mexican actress Eiza González plays Augustina “Auggie” Salazar, an entrepreneur who specializes in nanotechnology. Auggie is the first to see the countdown before her eyes.
However, in the original story, Auggie is a scientist named Wang Miao. It only appears in the first book and is also one of the prey pursued by the San-Ti, until they are forced to stop their research.
The aliens have different names and Sophon appears much earlier
In the book version, the alien civilization headed for Earth is known as the Trisolarans, because of the three-sun system they inhabit. In “3 Body Problem”, they are referred to as San-Ti, which means “three bodies” in Mandarin and interestingly, this is also the original name of Liu’s novel.
The Sophons are also introduced much earlier in the Netflix adaptation, taking the form of a woman with a katana. Within the book, she first appears as the narrator of the virtual reality game that Ye Wenjie gives to Jin Cheng after her daughter Vera’s suicide.
Da Xi is a former Chinese army officer in the books.
In the series chapters it is revealed that Da Shi, played by Benedict Wong, is a detective originally from Manchester. However, in the books, Da Shi is a Chinese who appears in the first two installments. Instead of working for the government organization headed by Wade, Da Shi is an independent researcher and also a former Chinese military officer.
The Ggroup of physicists are not friends in the original story
In the series, the characters Auggie, Will, Jin, Jack and Saul are close friends from the first episode, but in the book trilogy consisting of “The 3 Body Problem”, “The Dark Forest” and “Death’s End”, no one of these characters are known. Only two of them appear in the first novel, one in the second book, and the others until the last installment, which means that Nteflix decided to mix the three books for their own adaptation.
Jin Cheng and Will Downing are not close to the series
In Cixin’s work, the character known as Will Downing adopts the name Yun Tianming and is diagnosed with cancer, as narrated in the book “Death’s End”. Despite being in love with Cheng Xin, known as Jin Cheng in the series, since childhood, their relationship in the novel is not characterized by a close friendship as depicted in the adaptation created by Benioff, Weiss and Woo.
