What are you doing?
Rick and Michonne are transported to another world, built on the ashes of a war with the dead. And finally, the war against the living. Can they find themselves and remember who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known? are they enemies lovers victim? the winner? Without either, are they alive or will they discover that they too are zombies?
who is he with
Five years after he left for family reasons, Andrew Lincoln returns to the world of The Walking Dead. After his brief appearance in the post-credits scene of the last episode of the horror series, the latter returns to the role of Rick Grimes, a former sheriff who is ready to do anything to save his people from the danger that threatens them.
The iconic Michonne is also back by her side, again in the guise of Danai Gurira. The Black Panther star was heavily involved in the program’s design, to the point where he was credited as a co-creator with Andrew Lincoln and screenwriter Scott M. with Gimple.
A third character well known to fans of The Walking Dead returns in the form of Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh). It was the latter who transferred Rick Grimes to the Civil Republic camp. Eight years after the events, is the former leader of the Garbage Kids still on the side of the ex-sheriff’s allies?
New faces will also make their debut in the franchise during this new series. It is worth noting Terry O’Quinn, unforgettable John Locke in the skin of the bloodthirsty Major General. Or Leslie-Anne Brandt, former star of Spartacus.
Is it worth checking out?
The Walking Dead series are fortunately not alike. After the semi-decent surprise Dead City and the disappointing Daryl Dixon, the third series of World of Horrors has made its debut on television. The most anticipated of the three spin-offs, this new production marks the big return of Rick Grimes, five years after his sudden departure from the main series.
The former sheriff, played by Andrew Lincoln, does not return alone, as he is accompanied on this new adventure by his companion Michonne (played by Danai Gurira). Among the series’ most legendary pairings (the pair created by Maggie and Glenn), the latter also appears on the list of the saga’s most popular characters.

A break with the original series
The Ones Who Live miniseries is a long-term project. It’s been almost five years since the announcement of the project and its broadcast, and remember that initially this spin-off was supposed to take the form of a film intended for cinema. After several delays (most notably due to Covid), Rick Grimes is finally back with a six-episode mini-series.
The series opens with a mind-blowing sequence, a moment of bravery that directly references the iconic comic strip. Definitely sharper than the original series (whose sleepiness in past seasons scared off many of its fans), this new spin-off offers a worthy return to the Rick Grimes name.
This change in tone is also reflected in the introduction of a new militaristic society called the Civil Republic. Its members are particularly responsible for the destruction of the city of Atlanta, and this new plot therefore takes us back to the very first episodes of The Walking Dead.

Conclusion about the general plot of the saga
In this miniseries, the resolution is set to end not only Rick and Michonne’s storyline, but the resolution of the franchise as a whole. At the beginning of The Walking Dead, the former sheriff came out of a long coma and set out to find his family. Whoever lives now sees that his family (in this case, Michonne) is in all kinds of danger trying to find him.
All indications are that the shorter format is much more suited to this type of series. While The Walking Dead’s sixteen-episode season forced the writers to push the storylines forward, even if it meant offering episodes that were completely empty of content, The Ones Who Live’s story is subject to a much more sustained pace and, therefore, more excitement.
Although Daryl Dixon pitched itself as a direct sequel to the original series, The Ones Who Live makes an aesthetic and narrative shift similar to that implemented by Dead City.
Both an official sequel and a completely independent mini-series, this new production reconciles us with a world of horror, to the point where we forget the terrifying final seasons of The Walking Dead.

There are no plans to continue and that’s a shame…
Despite the expectations it raised, The Ones Who Live managed to live up to fans’ expectations. While Dead City and Daryl Dixon have been renewed for additional seasons, the Rick Grimes miniseries is not expected to continue as it was created as a one-season story.
But the return of Rick Grimes and Michonne in another installment of The Walking Dead – or a Revival From the main series – not out of the question…provided, of course, that they make it out of the six episodes of The Ones Who Live, which airs exclusively on Paramount+ every Friday.
