Lula says that, from time to time, you need “a little cachacinha” to express yourself politically

In his speech at the inauguration of the Ipojuca raw water pumping station, the president said that Minister Alexandre Padilha is the one who “gnaws at the bones” to move the negotiations forward

BRASÍLIA – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated, this Friday the 5th, that sometimes “a little cachacinha, every now and then a beer” is necessary to carry forward political negotiations. Thanking the presence of the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, at the inauguration of the Ipojuca Raw Water Pumping Station, in Arcoverde (PE), the president stated that he “certainly holds the most difficult role in the government”, that of political articulation.

“Comrade Padilha is the man who gnaws at bones. He certainly has the most difficult role in the government, which is the role of political articulation. Let’s imagine that my party has only 70 deputies out of a total of 513 and we need to vote for something 247 votes, and then it takes a lot of conversations, it takes a lot of meetings, it takes a lot of coffee, every now and then a bit of cachacinha, every now and then a beer”, said Lula.

The CEO then assessed that, despite the difficulty of the assignment, the relationships are positive. “Indeed, we have managed to build a political alliance that has so far not lost the vote on any important project at the National Congress. And, for this, I also thank comrade Padilha as coordinator of this, but also the federal deputies.”

During the speech Lula also made a nod to evangelicals. At a certain point in his speech, the PT deputy recalled his childhood in Caetés, in the countryside of Pernambuco, and said that that moment was a “miracle” because it was “the work of God”.

“I wanted to ask you two questions. The first question is: do you believe in God? And I wanted to ask you if you believe in miracles? So, I’ll tell you two miracles that are happening here right now. The The first miracle can only have happened because it is a miracle because it is work of God.”

This Thursday the 4th, in another event in Pernambuco, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ipojuca Raw Water Pumping Station, also in Arcoverde, Lula said that returning to the State to inaugurate a transposition work was a “miracle “due” to the faith and conviction “of Brazilians. At the time, the president also said that the presidential election had been another “miracle.” According to the PT member, voters’ vote in the 2022 elections, when former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) won, was an “act of faith and courage”.

Recent polls by opinion institutes, which show a decline in the president’s popularity, indicate that Lula’s worst rating is among evangelicals. This week, the government launched a campaign to try to reverse this scenario, under the slogan “Faith in Brazil”.
