37 years after the iconic Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel, Ivan Reitman is back with Ghostbusters: Legacy. The director was only a producer here and entrusted the reins of the project to his son, filmmaker Jason Reitman (Juno, Tully).
A direct sequel to Ghostbusters 2 — and without Paul Feig’s female reboot — The Legacy introduces a new generation of ghost hunters. In the feature film, Callie Spangler (Carrie Coon) settles in a small town with her two children, Phoebe (McKenna Grace) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard). They gradually discover their relationship with the ghost hunters and the legacy left by their grandfather Egon (the late Harold Ramis).
The Legacy sets the stage for a new series of films that tie directly into the original film as the new hunters bond with the old ones. With Ghostbusters: The Menace of Ice by Gil Kenan in our theaters this Wednesday, April 10, here’s a reminder of the facts from the previous installment.
What was going on in Ghostbusters: Legacy?
The story begins when Callie, a single mother, moves with her two children, Phoebe and Trevor, to the small isolated town of Summerville, Oklahoma, after inheriting a house from her late father, who was once associated with Ghostbusters.
Frustrated Phoebe, a science geek, and Trevor, a pretty normal teenager, explore the house. They then discover an old lab in the house’s basement, full of ghost-hunting equipment, and the famous Ecto-1 machine hidden in the garage. With the help of their new friend Podcast (Logan Kim), they explore the city’s hidden secrets and discover the existence of strange supernatural phenomena.
Meanwhile, an earthquake shakes the city, unleashing a powerful supernatural force that threatens to destroy everything in its path: Gozer is back. The children discover that their grandfather once sealed away this evil force and that his unfinished business now puts them in danger.
Gozer’s return
With their science teacher, Mr. Gruberson (Paul Rudd), a huge Ghostbusters fan, the gang tries to figure out how to use Egon Spengler’s equipment. When the ghosts start showing up en masse, Phoebe, Trevor and the podcast decide to test out a weapon in town, but it’s a disaster and they’re arrested by the police. Taken to the police station, they meet Lucie (Celeste O’Connor), the policeman’s daughter, who joins their small group.
Taking advantage of her only call with a loved one, young Phoebe takes the opportunity to call Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and tells him that she is Egon Spengler’s granddaughter and that the latter has died.

Meanwhile, Gozer grows more and more powerful and sends Zuul, his servant, to possess Kalia’s mind, while Vinz Klortho, aka Master Key, possesses Gary Gruberson.
Phoebe discovers that her grandfather’s farm is actually a ghost trap. The 4 kids then decide to go against Gozer to save Callie, Gary and the world. But the battle turns in Goser’s favor, and the young girl finds herself alone in the face of a ghost she tries to trap in Aegon’s fields.
The return of the original Ghostbusters
It is at this moment that members of the original Ghostbusters: Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston Zedemore (Ernie Hudson) arrive to lend a hand to the teenager. The Ghost of Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis digitally recreated for the occasion) then appears and sets off the traps he had hidden in the fields of his farm, allowing Gozer and his landlords to be arrested.

The Legacy’s post-credits scene also announced a sequel. There we find Winston Zademore, who claims to have found success in business thanks to his work as a ghost hunter. The latter continues to pay the rent for the barracks. We see it in a mythical place abandoned for years. At this time, the red light starts flashing.
The feature film will allow fans to reunite with the original ghosts and discover a new generation of Ghostbusters. The latter also returned Ghostbusters: The Ice MenaceIt’s scheduled to hit our theaters this Wednesday, April 10. staged Gil Kenan – co-writer of the previous opus – The Ice Menace returns to its roots as the film takes place in New York.
The Spengler family and Gary move into New York’s iconic fire station. They then find the original members of the Ghostbusters, who have created a secret research lab to take ghost hunting to the next level. When the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an army of ghosts spreading the menace of ice across the city, two teams of Ghostbusters must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age…
