Rachel Kondo said that the first season of Shogun seemed impossible to repeat. Producing new episodes would require time and energy that the co-creators would rather invest in their families, as Justin Marks explained: “We live on Maui now. We’re chicken farmers with our kids and we live there.”

The two also talked about Shogun’s high production costs. “A lot of it was because things were difficult, with a lot of night shooting in the snow, in the rain, in the mud in the middle of the forest. I don’t know if anyone would repeat it. It took every part of our soul, and even the cast gave of themselves,” he said .
The creators have stressed that there is no source material for a second season…
