Taylor Swift’s songs return to TikTok

Singer Taylor Swift’s songs return to TikTok despite the deal with the Universal Music group not being resolved

After a ten-week blackout, songs by singer Taylor Swift appeared on again Tick tock as an option that users can use in their short videos. The artist’s songs were removed from the platform in February, after his contract with the Universal Music group expired.

Although Taylor Swift’s songs have returned to the platform, other artists represented by the Universal label remain off TikTok, signaling that the parties have not reached a new agreement.

Controversy between TikTok and Universal Music

At the end of January the record label published an open letter in which it explained the reasons for not renewing the contract with the platform and informed that its artists’ songs would no longer be available on TikTok starting from February.

The group accused the Chinese company of not adequately rewarding musicians and composers and does not provide protection against piracy and the use of artificial intelligence.

According to the record company, “TikTok tried to intimidate us into accepting a deal that is worth less than the previous one, much less than fair market value and which does not reflect its exponential growth.”

Universal Music Group has said the platform has created a profitable business model based on the use of music, but denies fair payment for usage licenses. In response, the network responded that the Universal label “puts its own greed above the interests of its artists and composers.”

Taylor Swift returns to TikTok

The return of Taylor Swift’s songs to TikTok, however, seems to be the result of an agreement between the singer directly with the ByteDance platform.

The artist has already partnered with the Short Video network to promote his latest album and is now preparing the release of his new album, scheduled for April 19th.

So far, however, neither party has commented on the return of Swift’s songs to TikTok.
