Brazil expresses ‘grave concern’ over Iran’s attack on Israel

Itamaraty called for “efforts” to avoid “escalation” in the region

The Brazilian government has expressed “grave concern” over Iran’s missile and drone attack on Israel, in retaliation for the bombing of Tehran’s embassy in Damascus, Syria.

“Since the beginning of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Brazilian government has warned of the destructive potential of spreading hostilities to the West Bank and other countries, such as Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and, now, Iran,” it reads in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Brazil calls on all parties involved to demonstrate maximum restraint and calls on the international community to mobilize efforts to avoid escalation,” the statement added.

In the statement, Itamaraty also advises against “non-essential travel in the region” and specifies to “monitor the situation of Brazilians” in the area, “particularly in Israel, Palestine and Lebanon, since last October”.
