The Brazilian judoka “loses” his place at the Olympics due to doping

The fighter dropped from 27th to 91st in the rankings

Brazilian judoka Matheus Takaki, who qualified for the Paris Olympics, has been suspended for doping and will not participate in the world’s most important sporting event.

Number 1 in Brazil in the category up to 60 kg, the athlete received a six-month retroactive punishment, that is, he lost the points accumulated during this period and has no chance of reaching the Olympic Games.

Matheus tested positive for clomiphene, a substance used to treat breast cancer. However, in the world of sports, it is used to cover up anabolic doping.

The Brazilian judo player’s defense claims that contamination with a Matheus food supplement has been proven. The website of the International Judo Federation (IJF) reports his disqualification from the Pan American Championship, where he was champion, and from the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, where he won the silver medal. It is worth mentioning that these medals were the only ones in the fighter’s career on an international circuit.

In the Olympic rankings, Matheus dropped from 27th to 91st place, with no mathematical chance of turning the tide and reaching the Games. Therefore, in the category up to 60 kg, Michel Augusto is Brazil’s only hope as he occupies 29th place, two positions above the cutoff threshold for the Olympics.
