A few weeks ago we learned that Quentin Tarantino’s tenth and final film would not be The Movie Critic. Inspired by his own teenage years in Los Angeles in the 70s, this mural will never see the light of day, forcing an American filmmaker to find new ideas for his latest feature film.
Quentin Tarantino has had a succession of abandoned projects in recent years, including a Star Trek film and the third installment of the Kill Bill saga. But a few years before the film critic, the filmmaker almost threw another film from his filmography into oblivion.
Released in 2016, The Salopards Eight is a western shot behind closed doors as a play. The film is the antithesis of his previous film, Django Unchained, a Western, which, on the other hand, was shot in natural landscapes and set in a more widespread time period.
Quentin Tarantino changes his mind several times
In Wyoming, a few years after secession, a blizzard forces a bounty hunter and his prisoner Daisy Domergue to take refuge in a cabin. On the ground, five other people with troubled pasts and four equally dubious co-workers offer Daisy an unexpected opportunity to turn the tide in her favor…
In January 2014, a few months before filming, Quentin Tarantino announced that he was refusing to direct the film. Enraged by the leak of his script on the Internet, the filmmaker decided to publish his script as a novel and adapt it for the theater.
A few months later, the American director finally changed his mind, and on this occasion announced that the version leaked online was only a working copy. The finished version of the script, in particular, contains a completely different ending, as well as new twists.

First Oscar at the age of 84
The Salopards Eight finally began filming in January 2015, hitting cinemas on 6 January 2016. Earning more than $150 million at the actual box office worldwide (on a budget of about $57 million), this second Quentin Tarantino western also. It gave the legendary Italian composer, Ennio Morricone, the opportunity to win his first Oscar… at the age of 84!
Although the theatrical adaptation of Dirty Eight has yet to see the light of day, an extended version of the film is also expected. This new edit under the supervision of Quentin Tarantino would take the form of a mini-series of four 50-minute episodes (about 45 minutes of new footage) destined for the Netflix platform.
Quentin Tarantino-directed western The Salopards Eight will no longer be available on Prime Video from April 30.
