“We managed to achieve, for the first time in the history of Brazil, a very rapid tax reform,” says Lula

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that the approval of the tax reform in the National Congress is thanks to the ministers of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha. The speech, however, comes days after the chief executive asked his ministers to engage more with the legislature.

“We managed to achieve, for the first time in the history of Brazil, a very rapid tax reform,” said Lula, during the delivery event of an Embraer aircraft to Azul in São José dos Campos (SP), on Friday , 26. “We managed to dialogue, to talk, not to turn our noses at anyone, not to raise our noses in the air, to talk to everyone and to approve a fiscal policy,” he added.

In its assessment, credit for approval goes to the government body of ministers, citing the work of Haddad and Padilha. “The approval of the tax reform is thanks to Padilha, who worked a lot, Haddad, who spoke a lot, Rui Costa Casa Civil and the ministers who followed him to talk to Congress”, commented the president.

On Monday the 22nd, however, Lula asked for the participation of some of his main ministers in the political discussion. “This means that Vice President Geraldo Alckmin must be more agile, he must speak more. Haddad must, as we know, instead of reading a book, must waste a few hours speaking in the Senate and the House. Wellington Dias, Minister of Social Development, Rui Costa spend part of their time talking”, said the President of the Republic.
