After Niki Larson’s Netflix version: Is there a sequel to Philippe Lachaux’s film?

A new adaptation of the manga City Hunter Coming to Netflix. With the sober title Niki Larsson (the French title of the animated series), this film marks the first Japanese adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo’s famous comic book. Before that, several live-action versions saw the light of day, most notably with Jackie Chan and more recently with a Philip Lachaux parody.

In Nikki Larson and the Scent of Cupid, the latter takes on the role of the titular hero himself. In this action comedy, conceived as a love letter to Club Dorothée, Nick and his partner Laura (Élodie Fontan) are tasked with finding a perfume designed to make anyone who wears it irresistible…

The movie convinced some fans of the manga

Upon its release, the film did not have the success of Philippe Lachaux’s other films, but still managed to attract 1.7 million viewers in cinemas. The feature film was broadcast internationally in several countries, including Japan.

The popular success, if not the triumph, of Babysitting and Alibi.com, Nikki Larson and Scent of Cupid managed to convince a certain number of skeptical fans.

But if at the time of the film’s release he declared himself open to the idea of ​​a sequel, Philippe Lachaux has not yet been able to fulfill this wish. However, in recent years, the latter has continued filming, especially superheroes in spite of him and Alibi.com 2. Not to forget his participation as an actor in other films made by the Fife gang: 3 Days Max and Dog and Cat.

His next project is an adaptation of a famous comic book

Unfortunately, Niki Larson 2 will not be the next project that Philippe Lachaux will devote himself to, as he has already announced that his new film will be a new adaptation of The Adventures of Marsupillam. “There’s not a room where we’re not asked to continue Nikki Larson. I didn’t think it would be in such high demand.” He told us in February 2023.

“At some point, we might have to think about that!” He added, while his co-star and companion on the town, Elodie Fontan, confides his surprise, but also his delight, that this is the film that the band’s fans are talking about the most. “That was my favorite movie” He revealed to us in the same interview.

Therefore, Philip Lashaw’s Nikki Larson 2 is not on the agenda. If the latter does not hand over the production, it is therefore advisable to wait at least a few years until the shooting of his adaptation Marsupilami (in theaters on February 4, 2026) is completed.

Until then, it’s a completely different version of Nikki Larson – but no less successful – offered exclusively on Netflix.
