72 years old, 6 iconic films, 2 Oscars: this movie legend will soon return to Netflix

This is called not holding grudges.

Netflix ended this week of Upfronts (a series of panels during which platforms and channels present their upcoming programming) with some tantalizing announcements: The 3-Body Problem renewal, a Terminagolf sequel, or even a directorial feature film in production. By Kathryn Bigelow, 2008 Oscar winner for Minesweepers.

An announcement that will make you smile a little since last April, we learned that Netflix has decided to stop development of Aurora, the ambitious sci-fi film that Bigelow was supposed to direct, and here’s the synopsis:

“The world is plunged into apocalypse after a solar storm knocks out most of the power grids. A divorced mother who must protect her son gets closer to her brother, who is a wealthy Silicon Valley CEO who has built a luxurious bunker in the desert. Cope with such a disaster…”.

A new project and already a controversy behind the scenes

Is this a consolation prize to keep him stable? Because the director is very rare on the set and has not shot since 2017. In any case, this political thriller, which has no name and no actors, seems to be completely within his scope: in Zero Dark Thirty (2012) he repeated. The long hunt for Osama bin Laden by the CIA and in Detroit (2017), he plunged us into the heart of the turmoil.

If we believe the media punkSet in the White House, the film follows a group of people facing an unprecedented crisis: the imminent arrival of missiles on American soil. Noah Oppenheim (Labyrinth) is working on the screenplay.

Nevertheless, according to the American site, the argument has already started behind the scenes between the director of Netflix and the head of the department. The latter required Bigelow to reduce the budget and length of filming. To which the latter agreed…

After 7 years of waiting for the filmmaker to return to the forefront, we now hope that the streaming giant does not cancel this new project!
