Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: an adaptation of Bassan’s novel by Italian master Vittorio De Sica.
In 1970, Italian director Vittorio De Sica continued his rich collaboration with screenwriter Cesare Zavattin, who accompanied him in 25 films (including the most famous: The Bicycle Thief and Miracle in Milan).
Together, they bring to the screen the book by their compatriot Giorgio Bassani “The Garden of Finzi-Contin”, which describes the relationship of a group of young people of the Jewish bourgeoisie during the full rise of fascism in the 1930s.
Led by an excellent cast, the film conveys a melancholic atmosphere between seriousness and emotion. At the end of his career, Vittorio De Sica staged a new masterpiece of Italian neorealism, which was awarded the Golden Bear of the Berlinale and also the statue of the best international film of the Oscar. On AlloCiné, the film has a solid audience rating average of 4 out of 5.
