The pleasant surprise of Furiosa: Mad Max is Chris Hemsworth like you’ve never seen him before!

The Mad Max saga returns with a powerful new film from George Miller. About ten years after Fury Road, an Australian filmmaker is offering a prequel about Furiosa, the character played by Charlize Theron.

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy was chosen to play the younger version of the Empress. And we can say that the revelation of the sorceress and the queen’s gambit gives an impressive performance.

Furiosa tells the story of the famous Empress Furiosa’s youth in the fallen world. Everything changes when he is removed from the green earth and captured by a horde of bikers led by the fearsome Dementus. As she tries to survive the desolation, the immortal Joe, and find her way home, Furiosa has only one obsession: revenge.

Our podcast recap on ‘Furiosa’

Furiosa’s pleasant surprise? It’s Chris Hemsworth!

If he is the clear hero and soul of the film, there is another star who stands out in Furiosa and that is Chris Hemsworth! Old Thor is one of the very nice surprises of the feature film.

The Australian actor plays Warlord Dementus, a completely insane villain who gives his all to the role he leads and which finally allows him to break free from his Marvel image.

Chris Hemsworth transforms with fake prosthetics and an unusual costume that makes him the leader of a biker gang, somewhere between a bloody guru and a rock band leader.

But beyond his crazy appearance, he is also a complex character who vacillates between his humanity and immorality and who tries above all to exist and speak to his followers first, and his character is shaped by a wider audience later.

What could be the best role for an Australian actor? Either way, it was a great experience for the actor, as he told us:

“I love the chaos of my character. It was quite liberating and stimulating. Superheroes, as much as I love playing them, are things that have to be lived up to. I allowed myself more with Dementus, and he was incredibly flawed, complex and contradictory.

He was crazy and scary at one point, then he has moments of humanity and vulnerability. I loved having fun with it. There was a release I’ve never experienced before, and I’m really grateful for that.”

Chris Hemsworth’s presence brought another Australian touch to the shoot, explains Doug Mitchell, producer and longtime George Miller collaborator:

“One of the main representatives of the Australian character in the film is Chris Hemsworth, with this character, Dementus, who is, on the one hand, charismatic, very lovable, comical with an Australian touch. But in a split second, he can become the most violent and cruel person who can do terrible things.

Chris is extraordinary. He is very smart. He wanted to be in Mad Max from the beginning. He knows the world well, he is Australian and he loves motorcycles, but also riding. And his kids are just as athletic as he is, especially his twins who do stunts on motorcycles. He showed me some pictures and said, “They’ll be in the next Mad Max at 14.”

So while you wait for the saga of Mad Max to welcome Chris Hemsworth’s sons in a potential next film, you can discover the Aussie actor as you’ve never seen him before in one of his best roles on film in Furiosa.
