Pelotas and Rio Grande also suspended school activities earlier this week
Due to weather forecasts of further rain, the State Government is suspending lessons on the state network in the municipalities of Porto Alegre, Pelotas and Rio Grande on Monday (27) and Tuesday (28) of this week.
The municipalities of the three municipalities also confirm the suspension of the activities of the municipal educational network. In Porto Alegre the municipal council also ordered the suspension of private online lessons.
Pay attention to the notices from the Civil Protection and the RS government and, in case of emergency, call 190 (Military Brigade) and 193 (Fire Brigade).
Heavy rain warning
The municipal Civil Protection has issued a preventive warning regarding the possibility of intense rainfall (between 50 and 100 millimeters per day) and winds between 60 and 100 km/h, which could prolong the existing flooding in Porto Alegre, cause overflows of streams water and landslides, as well as the risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches and electrical discharges. The meteorological event is expected to begin in the early hours of Monday 27th and last until the evening.
The information comes from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), which monitors weather conditions. The Permanent Commission for Emergency Action (Copae), composed of various municipal and state bodies, monitors weather forecast updates and maintains teams ready to provide assistance to the population.
The Civil Protection advises the population to take shelter in a safe place, stay away from poles, trees and signs and advertising signs, not enter floods, observe changes in slopes and avoid the use of electronic devices connected to the electricity grid.
