Applause at the end of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. After twelve days of cinema, discoveries, emotions, climbing stairs, glamor and above all views of the world, the jury, chaired by Greta Gerwig, chose the 2024 Palme d’Or branch.
It’s Sean Baker’s Anora, a sex-worker’s journey between New York and Las Vegas, led by the dazzling Mikey Madison, following Justin Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall.
The 53-year-old American filmmaker, a leader in US indie cinema, has previously featured Tangerine, The Florida Project and Red Rocket. It gave Hollywood its first Palme d’Or in thirteen years and Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life.
