The employee reports psychological and moral abuse, as well as unfounded accusations of theft
Caetano Veloso and Paula Lavigne were sued by their former housekeeper Edna Santos, who worked for the couple for more than 20 years. Edna has filed two lawsuits in Rio de Janeiro court against the 81-year-old singer and his 55-year-old manager and wife.
In the proceedings, Edna claims to have been accused by Paula Lavigne of stealing dollars from her bosses’ home, as well as having suffered various abuses from the businesswoman. In a statement, the former housekeeper’s defense specifies that the client “was subjected to a systematic pattern of psychological and moral abuse, facts which will however be brought to the attention of the labor judiciary in due course”.
Refunding request
Edna is seeking compensation of approximately R$2.6 million, including night shift pay, additional duties, overtime and wage supplementation. According to lawyers, Paula “launched a private investigation” after the money disappeared from her home. Edna would have been “constantly and unduly indirectly accused” of the theft of the sum.
Details of the investigation
Edna handed over bank statements from the past seven years and had her cell phone “confiscated” by Paula, who allegedly violated “the confidentiality of her communications by accessing personal conversations and backing up Edna’s private data.” The information was published by Veja magazine.

After details of the trial came to light, a video showing Paula Lavigne’s relationship with Edna once again circulated on social media. In the video, Paula appears talking to Edna during a call during Angélica’s program “50 and Tanto”, broadcast in November 2023. The host asked the guests to call the women they admired and Paula chose to call the employee, but he was the one who started the conversation by going over the household chores.
“Edna, has the water arrived? Has Gaetano eaten?”, asked Paola. After hearing the employee’s feedback, she added, “Just to tell you that I really admire you, okay?” The unexpected gesture left Edna without understanding what was happening.
