Audiences that love binge-watching TV series had a tough time last week, not just because several new shows arrived on streaming platforms. streamingarousing the curiosity of many, but also because the period was marked by the opening and closing of the popular seasons.



One of the productions that gave people something to talk about during that time was Dark mattera new science fiction series by Apple TV+. Another show that was also one of the most watched of the period was Bridgerton, which, to the delight of fans, returned for its third season. The season, of which only the first part has been released, is already considered the series’ biggest debut, having accumulated 45.1 million views in its first three days of airing.

Finally, what has entered the public’s radar over the last week has been the production A gentleman in Moscow, a Paramount+ drama that premiered in the UK in March, but arrived on the 17th here in Brazil. With Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge), the production tells the story of a man trapped in a hotel and exiled in his own country.

10. The Handmaid’s Tale

 

Based on the book of the same name written by Margaret Atwood in 1985, The Handmaid’s Tale is an original dystopian TV series by Hulu. On air since 2016, all five seasons were available Amazon Prime Video (the sixth and final will only be released in 2025), thus allowing many people to marathon the entire title in one go.

With Elizabeth Moss (The veil), is set in an alternate future where a totalitarian government ruled by divine law has taken power in the United States. Based on the book Save me by writer Mona Kasten, the German series arrived in streaming on the 9th and, since then, has never left its top 10, occupying first place in the charts in 120 regions. The success has already guaranteed a second season and new success on social media.

A teenage love story, the show tells the story of Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten), a scholarship student studying at Maxton Hall, a school catering to the rich and powerful. One day, she witnesses a very scandalous scene involving James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), one of the most popular and richest boys in school, and, while he tries to buy her silence, other feelings arise from this relationship.

Created by Brian Watkins, it revolves around Royal Abbott, a farmer who finds himself embroiled in a great mystery when an outsider arrives on his ranch, his daughter-in-law Rebecca disappears and a black hole appears on his property. While he tries to manage all these problems, which seem to arise like a domino effect, he still has to deal with the Tillersons, a family who is trying to steal his land.

7. A gentleman in Moscow

British miniseries just arrived on Paramount+, A gentleman in Moscow is a historical drama based on the book of the same name written by Amor Towles. Consisting of just eight episodes, it is one of the great current successes of the platform and stars Ewan McGregor as a count called Alexander Rostov.

 

Set shortly after the October Revolution, the title follows Alexander as he returns to Moscow and, due to family relationships, is put on trial by a Bolshevik court. As punishment, the aristocrat is sentenced to house arrest, having to live in the attic of the Hotel Metropol for decades.

A gentleman in Moscow is part of the Paramount+ catalog.

6. Shogun: the glorious saga of Japan

 

One of the most popular series of 2024, which recently got the green light for a second season, Shogun: The Glorious Saga of Japan is a historical drama based on the epic of the same name written by James Clavell in 1975. Originally from Hulu, it reached the end of its first season a few weeks ago, but continues to enjoy success with the public and is among the most watched series.

Set at the beginning of the 17th century, it follows in the footsteps of three very representative characters of the feudal period in the East: a British sailor, shipwrecked off the coast of Japan; a Japanese leader and brilliant strategist, trying to rise to government; and an intelligent and very skilled woman, who needs to prove his worth and her loyalty.

One of the most successful productions in Netflix, Bridgerton just returned for its third season. Based on the book series of the same name written by Julia Quinn, the title is set during the British Regency era and, in each season, follows a different member of the Bridgerton family and their respective couple.

In the new season, focusing on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), the show follows Penelope’s quest to find a husband and Colin’s help, initially as a friend, to support her in this mission. Divided into two parts, the new season has only seen the first four episodes streaming, while the other four will arrive only on June 13th.

4. Baby reindeer

 

One of Netflix’s most unexpected phenomena, Little reindeer is a drama miniseries written, directed by and starring Richard Gadd. An absolute streaming success, strengthened thanks to word of mouth, the production is based on a story that happened to Gadd himself and was included by Netflix in three 2024 Emmy categories.

Title at the top of the ranking of the most viewed streaming productions in 30 countries, the series tells the story of Donny Dunn, an aspiring comedian who works as a bartender in a London pub and, after feeling sorry and offering a cup of tea to A Lonely client “overcomes” a stalker who begins to observe him day and night.

Still on air, with episodes released weekly, the production tells the story of Jason Dessen, a physics professor in love with his wife and son. One day, returning from a party with a friend, he is kidnapped by a masked figure and wakes up in an alternative reality where his family is no longer there and his life is completely different.

One of the biggest hits in Prime Video history, Fall is a post-apocalyptic drama series based on Bethesda’s video game franchise of the same name. With a first season of eight episodes, released at the beginning of April, it continues to be talked about and has already received the green light for continuation.

With Ella Purnell (Yellow jackets), the series is set in the year 2296, when two hundred years have passed since a nuclear war nearly decimated the population.
