Among the most legendary names in stop motion animation is Henry Selick, the director of coral, James and the giant peachand classic of all time the nightmare before Christmas. For decades he has been a master at his craft and is about to return with a new feature film entitled wendell and wildthe first since then coral traumatized children everywhere in 2009. The titular duo is made up of two demon brothers trying to escape the underworld with the help of a rebellious 13-year-old girl, and Selick has assembled an incredible team to carry his vision including Wendell and Wild they are voiced by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele respectively, and the beloved actors, comedians and directors are also co-writers.
The origins of the film lie in “an old story of mine inspired by my children when they were little,” says Selick. Empire in the next news Avatar: The way of water theme. “Sometimes I thought of them as demons, so I did a little drawing of them as demons and it was just Wendell and Wild.”
The demonic duo aren’t the only ones playing here: their attempt to escape the underworld requires the help of Kat, a young black woman voiced by Lyric Ross who disrupts the world of the “fantasy girl school” she attends. “She turns into this Afro-punk princess behind closed doors,” says Selick. “When you see her with her old boombox playing that X-Ray Spex song with Poly Styrene singing, she gets my heart racing.” This music is crucial not only for Kat, but also for her father, who wink at the long legacy of Afro-punk music. “A lot of punk bands in the early 70’s were black. there is death, [Pure] Shit, bad brains. And then there’s this new generation of Afro-punks too, “says Selick.”[Kat’s father] I was a fan of the first generation and she is a fan of the new generation. strap – with wendell and wildSelick, Peele and Key are about to create a little hell.
