Wes Ball’s Labyrinth airs tonight on NRJ12. In this film, adapted from James Dashner’s 2009 bestselling novel, Dylan O’Brien stars as Thomas, a young man trapped in a giant maze with a group of other boys whose plan changes every night. With no memory of the outside world except for strange dreams about a mysterious organization called WCKD, with fragments of his past he finds in the maze, Thomas hopes to find a way to escape.
Two other films, “Scorched Earth” and “Lethal Medicine” make up this dystopia trilogy, which earned 950 million dollars at the international box office and brought 9 million viewers to French cinemas.
Is it planned to continue?
James Dashner published his literary dystopia saga in 2012 in the face of success.order to kill“and”Embers” Two novels in 2017 that take place before the events of Labyrinth. In 2021, the novelist returns “Newt’s fate“, a sequel centered around the character played in the Thomas Brodie-Sangster films.
However, none of these novels have been adapted for film to date. On the other hand, 20th Century Fox recently announced that the saga would be revived. While promoting his latest film Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom, director Wes Ball said. The Hollywood Reporter that he was going to produce a “new version” of Labyrinth.
“Hopefully there will be some continuation of the story while returning to the elements that allowed the first film to connect with its audience.”
Ten years after the first part, another film is planned. This new chapter will not be a direct sequel, but a reboot with an expansion of the post-apocalyptic world imagined by the novelist in the same way Wes Ball did Planet of the Apes.
Labyrinth 4 is written by Jack Paglen, who worked on the sci-fi films Transcendence (2014) and Alien: Covenant (2017). We don’t know anything about the plot or casting yet, but it’s highly unlikely that the original cast (at least those who survived) will appear in the film.
