James Cameron plans to transfer “Avatar” to another director

Plans for the “Avatar” franchise include a total of five films, but James Cameron is no longer sure he will direct all of them.

Although the second is in post-production and the third in development – both directed by Cameron -, the others have not yet been fully approved by Disney, which awaits the financial return of the new releases to give the green light. Therefore, the director suggests that he will not be responsible for these films.

“I think over time – I don’t know if after the third or fourth – I’ll want to pass the baton to a director I trust and that I can do other things that interest me too,” explained the director in an interview with Empire magazine.

Cameron also stated that the process of making the “Avatar” films is totally consuming, even though he has been responsible for the development of the planet Pandora for so long.

In any case, it is important to note that he still said goodbye to the direction of the franchise, but he is not even sure if there will be a fourth or a fifth film. “It depends on the strength of the market, but I really hope we can do a quarter and a fifth, because in the end it’s a great story,” he said.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” will hit theaters on December 15 this year. The release of the third film, still untitled, is scheduled for December 2024.
