Three years after revolutionizing cinematographic action with memory at Cannes, director Doug Liman returns to the big screen with Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a feature film with a much lighter tone than the star duo was already carrying. The time: Brad Pitt, coming off Troy and Ocean’s Twelve, and Angelina Jolie, fresh off Taking Lives and Alexandre.

In Mr. and Mrs. Smith, John is a construction manager, Jane is a technical support consultant, and their marriage is on the rocks. In reality, the duo work as assassins for different companies, each hiding their true profession from the other. This long-running charade might have continued if they hadn’t been hired to carry out the same operation: to kill a prisoner (played by Adam Brody) during his transfer. Then the two spouses cross each other on the field and become rivals.
