The Minister also emphasizes that there is no misalignment between the parties involved, but rather that the challenges presented are entirely technical
The extraordinary minister for the reconstruction of the RS, Paulo Pimenta, declared this Monday (3) in the RaioX program that the situation at the Salgado Filho international airport is very serious. In his analysis he believes that the space will not reopen before December. Pimenta also emphasizes that there is no misalignment between the parties involved, but rather that the challenges presented are entirely technical.
“The airport administration has informed that all navigation and signaling equipment will have to be repurchased. If the order was placed today, for example, we would receive it only in four months. Furthermore, this order can only be placed after the completion of the appraisal of damage and this service will take 45 days apart from all the installation and testing time… So I don’t think it will reopen before December, he explains.
Pimenta also specifies that there are other issues related to the reactivation of the airport. He highlights, for example, the fact that the federal government owes a total of R $ 290 million to Fraport, administrator of Salgado Filho, even at the time of the pandemic. Pimenta specifies that the concession contract provided for a minimum number of passengers and, due to the health crisis, the company adopted administrative measures. The federal government has already recognized the debt, but the minister emphasizes that it is in dialogue to avoid Fraport “starting only after the payment of the credit”.
The minister was keen to underline that the floods in the state are “not linear”, as in the Central Region they have been less adverse than in areas such as Vale do Taquari and the Metropolitan Region. Pimenta also says that in the south of the RS the cities have had more time to prepare for the flood, but that the situation is still serious and has been more serious than expected.
