After years of waiting, Spotify has finally confirmed that it will launch its subscription option later this year with a lossless standard, i.e. higher quality audio, without data loss due to compression (like old CDs, but even better) . According to Bloomberg, the so-called Spotify HiFi is expected to arrive by the end of 2024 and will cost at least US$5 extra for users of the premium plan.
Also known as high-resolution audio, the lossless format can achieve the same quality seen in a recording studio. While CDs use a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz at 16-bit, services like Apple Music and Deezer, which support lossless audio, reach up to 192 kHz at 24-bit. Find out more about lossless here.
