Previously thought of as a series for Disney+, the sequel to Moana: A Sea of Adventures hits theaters in 2024
One of the screenwriters and directors of Moana 2, David G. Derrick Jr. (Raya and the Last Dragon) provided some details about the long-awaited sequel Moana: A Sea of Adventurea 2016 animation, which hits theaters in November this year.
According to the filmmaker, the protagonist’s story takes place over three years since the end of the first film: “We begin our story with Moana, three years after the first film, exploring the seas and looking for new islands, mapping that region, hoping to find other people living there”revealed during the Annecy Animation Festival, which takes place in France.
“The people of Motunui have not met other people for generations, but Moana You know that the ocean connects us. However, who does it connect us with? She’s looking for proof that there’s something beyond her island, and is curious about the fact that she hasn’t found anything so far.”completed Derrick Jr. [via The Hollywood Reporter].
What it is Moana 2?
The first preview of Moana 2 revealed that the protagonist – originally voiced by Auli’i Cravalhoin Mean Girls: The Musical (2024), and with the voice of Any Gabriellyformer member of the supergroup Now Unitedin Brazil – you will receive a call from your ancestors to go on a new mission with the intention of reconnecting your people.
The trailer also shows the return of the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnsonin Fast and furiousin the original version), who will not let his young friend go on a new adventure without him. Moana 2 opens in Brazilian cinemas on November 28th this year. Check out the preview with Any Gabrielly:
