Russell Crowe is no stranger to superhero movies adapted from comic books. He portrayed Superman’s (Henry Cavill) biological father, Jor-El, on the DC side in Zack Snyder’s film, and then joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Zeus in Thor: Love And Thunder. Finally, he will soon be seen as Kraven’s father (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in Sony’s Kraven The Hunter (a collaboration with Marvel).
So when British magazine GQ (via Variety ) recently asked the Oscar-winning actress about her experience directing superhero movies, she was taken aback by Dakota Johnson’s comments that Madame Web was like art.was carried out by the committee“, laughed at the idea that there was anything deep in making such films.
“I don’t want to comment on what anyone else might say or their experiences, but… you bring out the wicked quality of my humor. You’re telling me you signed up for a Marvel movie and a cartoon universe… and that you didn’t have enough pathos?– the actor answered with sarcasm. “I don’t know how to make it better for you. It’s a giant machine and they shoot movies of some size… there are works. You know: it’s your role, play the role. If you’re expecting this to be a life-changing event, I just think you’re here for the wrong reasons.“
Making a superhero movie remains a challenge
Russell Crowe However, he admitted that making superhero moviescan be a challenge“Because it requires working in front of green screens everywhere”It will convince you not only about the inner machinations of your character. But still…and you can’t directly comment on that because I don’t know her and I don’t know what she went through and the fact that we can have an experience on a m**** movie…yes you can.“
“But is this a Marvel process? I’m not sure you can say that– continued the actor. “I haven’t had a bad experience. I mean, okay, it’s a Marvel movie, but it’s Taika Waititi’s world, and he’s just had fun being silly every day. And then, J.C. With Chandor in Kraven, I just give the circumstances a little weight so that young actors have an actor they can get away with. Going to work with JC was fun. You know, a lot of these directors have some level of skill – really great people.“

Comments by Dakota Johnson
The above comments Dakota Johnson comes from an interview with Bustle, in which the actress admitted that she wasn’t surprised Madam Web was such a critical and commercial failure earlier this year.
“It’s very hard to make movies, and in these big movies that are made—and it happens even with the smaller ones, and this is what really pisses me off—the decisions are made by committees and the art doesn’t work. It’s good when it’s done by committee“, she said.
“Films are shot by a filmmaker and a team of artists around him. You cannot create art based on numbers and algorithms. I have long felt that society is extremely intelligent and leaders are beginning to believe that it is not. Society will always be able to pick up the crap. Even if movies start to be made using artificial intelligence, people won’t want to see them“- concluded the actor.
Kraven the Hunter, the upcoming superhero movie starring Russell Crowe alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, will hit theaters on December 18, 2024.
