On Friday the Minister of Human Rights participated in an evangelical celebration
RIO – The Minister of Human Rights, Silvio Almeidahe received a standing ovation when he criticized the criminalization of women victims of rape who have abortions during an evangelical service on the night of Friday 21st. According to Almeida, “whoever wants a raped woman to be arrested” “is poisoned by the ideology of hatred”.
The minister’s statement was made during an evangelical event at the Água Branca Baptist Church, run by Pastor Ed Rene’ Kivitz, in western São Paulo.
“Whoever defends that young black people be exterminated by the police is wrong and poisoned by the ideology of hate. Because anyone who defends a public safety policy that aims to transform police officers into murderers is wrong and poisoned by the ideology of hate.” and leads policemen to death, despair and suicide. Those who defend a violent policy are not friends of the police, they are enemies of the police, because they are wrong and are poisoned by the ideology of hatred that wants a woman who was raped to be arrested,” said Silvio de Almeida.
On Wednesday the 12th the Chamber approved the emergency regime for the bill that equates abortion after the 22nd week of gestation to the crime of simple murder. Urgency, in practice, allows the proposal to move more quickly in the House, arriving directly in the Chamber.
The project was proposed by federal MP Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ) and 32 other co-authors. Most of the signatures come from parliamentarians of the Liberal Party (PL), the main opposition party to the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The project divides parliamentarians in the Chamber of Deputies.
In another part of the speech, the minister also criticized the arms policy and insulted former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), one of the supporters of the freedom to own and bear arms.
“Can the religion of this God be like weapons, like violence? Can the religion that worships a man who was tortured defend T-shirts with the name of the torturer? I don’t think so,” the minister said.
According to Almeida, “polarization means that you disagree, perhaps on relevant issues, which are important, but there is no polarization between democracy on the one hand and between fascism and death on the other. This is not polarization.”
