Hierarchy: Discover the synopsis, cast and trailer of the Netflix drama series

Debuting on Netflix in early June, the series Hierarchy was highly anticipated by Korean drama fans, as its plot promised plenty of thrills and twists.

The production features names like Lee Chae-min and No Jeong Ee in the cast, and presents itself as a teen drama series full of intrigue, in a story set in an elite South Korean school, being a complete dish for K-drama lovers.

The South Korean series has only seven episodes and a script written by Chu Hye-mi (About Time), being an exclusive production of Studio Dragon. In the story, a scholarship student at an elite school vows to break the hierarchy of an exclusive group of teenagers. Find out more about the series, such as the synopsis and cast, below.

What is the synopsis of Hierarchy?

The new South Korean series is directed by Bae Hyeon-jin (Alchemy of Souls) and the plot is set at Jooshin High School, one of the most prestigious elite schools in South Korea.

The plot shows a select group of financially fortunate young people, and also the best students, who dominate the institute and its classrooms. However, a scholarship student named Kang Ha is transferred to the school and the entire dynamic of the place begins to be threatened, as he uncovers some dark secrets of the students at the top of the school’s student hierarchy.

Hierarchy Cast

In addition to Lee Chae-min and No Jeong Ee as the protagonists Kang Ha and Jung Jae-i, respectively, the series’ cast also brings together other big names in South Korean television, with particular attention to Kim Jae-won (Real Smile) as Kim Ri-an, Ji Hye-won (It’s Okay to Not Be Normal) as Yoon He-ra, Lee Won-jung (A Lawyer Extraordinaire) as Lee Won-jin, among others.

Repercussions of the series

The series had a mixed initial reception among viewers and the specialized press. On the sites IMDb and My Drama List, for example, the k-drama production began with a score of 7.3 on both.

Regarding international reviews, such as that of Decider, journalist Joel Keller did not spare criticism of the work, stating that it “doesn’t really bring anything new to the genre”.

Along the same lines, critic Ruchika Bhat of DMT said that the script of the series doesn’t bring anything new and that it “(…) gets lost by trying to do too many things at once.” However, if you are a fan of the genre, it is worth watching to come to your own conclusions.
