Chuck TV series! The killer doll returned to the somersault in 8 bloody episodes

Chuck (8×45 ‘), created by Don Mancini.

Available at Salto from 1 April

The most famous killer doll is back. After seven feature films and a re-release in cinemas in 2019, the horror franchise imagined by Don Mancini in the late 80s returns for the first time as a TV series.

Called sober, Chuck, this sequel to the fake reruns that is part of the continuum of Chuck’s return events, takes us to the small town of Heckensek, where he sees a young Jake (14-year-old Zachary Arthur). Her life revolves around the day she buys a vintage doll in the garage to carry out an art project.

Very quickly the teenager discovers that the doll he starts talking to has the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. And when a wave of bizarre events and murders begins in the peaceful daily lives of the Heckensek people, Jake becomes the main suspect in the police and his classmates. He must choose to take revenge on those who hurt him, one-on-one by Chuck, or to save them from the actions of a killer doll.

Far from its inception, the horror franchise slasher once again finds itself in this series, more fun, quirky, and meta-than-ever, which takes us into a fairly well-regarded teenage world that discusses topics such as school bullying or sexuality. Frontally and sharply. Because Jake is openly gay and has to deal with the not always gentle gaze of other teenagers, but also his own family, who are struggling to understand him, from the abusive father to his horrible cousin the younger.

In addition to offering Death, which is still just as bloody and enjoyable, a series led by Zachary Arthur, Bjorgvin Arnarson and Alivia Alin Lind, all of which stand out as a wonderful revelation, has a good idea of turning Chuck into a killer. The doll is “tolerant” and open, which becomes an LGBTQ + ally for Jake (the doll explains that she has a stony child herself) and tries to help and protect her … in her own way.

As for fans of the 1988 franchise Child’s Play, they will be delighted to find Brad Durif’s cult voice reviving the doll, but also the saga’s many iconic characters.

Like Andy (Alex Vincent), Chuck’s first owner in feature films written by Mancini, his and Kylie (Christine Ellis), Nick (Fiona Durif), the protagonist of the opus “The Curse of Chuck” and “The Return of Chuck” and of course Tiffany (the great Jennifer Tilly), without whom the saga would not be the same.

Surprisingly and pleasantly to the end, Chuck is one of the good surprises of recent months on American television. And because of his success on Syfy and USA Network, he is already guaranteed to be back soon for a second season. Because a bloody doll never dies.
