Incarnation of Envy: Cast, Synopsis and Where to Watch the Drama

Netflix has been expanding its Asian series and films catalog at every opportunity, bringing in successful productions in addition to producing many of its own dramas. One title that has had a lot of repercussions is Envy Incarnation, a 2016 South Korean drama, with a single season of 24 episodes, and directed by Park Shin Woo (It’s Okay Not to Be Normal). Although it is not a Netflix original production, the platform has made the drama available to its subscribers.

In Incarnation of Envy, young journalist Na-Ri is a weather girl from humble origins who works part-time at a television station together with Hwa-shin, a successful journalist and host with whom she has had an unrequited love for three years.

Things get complicated when Hwa-shin finally shows interest in Na-Ri, but now has his sights set on her best friend, Jung-won, the chaebol heir to a major luxury clothing brand. Na-Ri works hard to support herself and her younger brother, and needs to deal with the envy and competitiveness of her work environment to stay in her job, without being able to fully dedicate herself to becoming an anchor, which is her dream job.

The drama Incarnation of Envy also tackles a topic that is not usually addressed in South Korean or non-South Korean productions, namely breast cancer in a male character. The topic is treated lightly, and while it is not the main focus of the production, it is a valid point to consider.
