Deadpool & Wolverine will only hit Brazilian cinemas on July 25th, but Rolling Stone Brazil had the opportunity to watch the first thirty minutes of the new Marvel film at an event held for fans in Rio de Janeiro, which was attended by Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin and the director Shawn Levy. What happens in Deadpool & Wolverine?

Deadpool & Wolverine begins with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) in the middle of a snow-covered place, reflecting on his arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He says that, after Disney bought Fox, he thought he would never return, but he was happy that was not the case.

Then we find out where he is: in the tomb of the Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), killed in “Logan” (2017). Deadpool talks about how emotional the death was, but argues that this is not how the mutant’s healing factor works and, believing that Wolverine is alive, begins to dig it up, discovering only the X-Men’s adamantium skeleton.

Angry, he hits the skeleton with the shovel, but then takes it out of the grave and begins to talk to the skeleton. At that moment, several agents of the Time Variance Authority, the TVA, presented in the series “Loki”(2021-2023), appear and try to take the Chatty Mercenary with them.

Deadpoolof course, does not give up and starts fighting the agents to the sound of “Bye Bye Bye”, by the boy band ‘NSYNCkicking off one of the most entertaining openings in the franchise to date. At one point, he rips out the claws of Wolverine and puts it on himself, arming himself as the mutant as the title appears on the screen — which drew screams from everyone present at the event, it is worth saying.

In sequence, Deadpool takes us back to 2018, before the events shown in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), to find out how he got to that moment.

He is on Earth-616, without his traditional uniform, in a sort of “job interview” to join the Avengers. Faithful squire of the Man of Iron, Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) is the one who leads the conversation and says Deadpool that he is not ready to join the team, because he wants it for personal reasons, not to help people.

Cut to six years later, on Earth-10005, where Deadpool works as a car salesman. It’s his birthday and his friends — including his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) — they prepared a surprise party for him. However, the event is interrupted by the arrival of AVT agents, who take him to the agency’s headquarters.

There, we are introduced to the Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen), a high-ranking AVT agent, who reveals the Deadpool that your planet is dying after the death of Wolverinethe “anchor” of that universe, an extremely powerful being and/or important for the maintenance of its reality — a simpler way of talking about the nexus beings, presented in the comics.

In order not to affect the Sacred Timeline — that is, the reality of Earth-616 — and to gain some points within the TVA, Paradox wants to accelerate the process of destroying reality Deadpooltempting him with the possibility of fulfilling his wish of joining the Avengers if he leaves his universe behind.

Deadpool does not accept the agreement and steals the equipment Paradox to travel between timelines, determined to go after Wolverine. At this point, we return to the opening scene of the film and see that, after confirming that his Wolverine was really dead, the Chatty Mercenary decides to go after variants of the mutant, presenting us with several easter eggs cool and a special participation of Hulk.

Finally, Deadpool find yours Wolverine in a bar — as we’ve seen in the trailers — and takes him to the AVT. There, he confronts Paradoxsaying that he has found the new “anchor” for his reality, but the agent warns him that that Wolverine did terrible things in his own reality and would not be a good choice.

As Deadpool keeps insisting, Paradox sends him to The Void — which was also shown in “Loki” — where all realities end. Then, Wolverine is also sent there and one of the most anticipated moments for fans begins: a violent and quite bloody fight between the two.

The showing of the first few minutes of “Deadpool & Wolverine” was closed soon after, but before that we still saw some more scenes from the film, such as the presentation of Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), the return of some mutants already known to fans, such as Fanatic It is Sabertoothand several variants of Deadpoolincluding Dogpool It is Ladypoolwho is blonde like Taylor Swift.
