Longlegs: Actress recalls the first time she saw Nicolas Cage in character: ‘Unrecognizable’

During an interview with Variety to talk about the production, directed by Oz Perkins, Monroe commented as the first time he saw Cage was what is shown in the film. In other words, her reactions on screen were genuine.

As the actress explained, Perkins made a conscious effort to keep the film’s actors and actresses away from each other until they were in a scene together. “The whole build-up to that was crazy. They had been filming with Cage for five days at that point, and it was his last day, probably three weeks into filming,” he recalled.

“The director chose not to let me see anything, not to meet him, not to see what his face looked like. He created this character, this thing, so I was so nervous,” she continued. Maika Monroe. “The production assistants take me to this door that leads to the room where he is. The cameras start rolling on me and the director yells ‘action.'”

I opened the door and what you see is all very real, and it was incredible. He is unrecognizable and so I didn’t feel like I was in a room with Nick Cage.

Also to Variety, Nicolas Cage revealed when he began to admire the work of Maika Monroe: “I wanted to follow her after Evil Chain (2014). Especially in the first few opening scenes when she’s strapped into that wheelchair, being pushed around. I felt terrible for her, and she just kept that up throughout the movie.”

It’s a different energy than other actors. That’s what makes her unique, and what matters is that Maika has a personality and energy that separates her from everyone else. She is like no one else, and that is a huge compliment.
