Ryan Reynolds reveals he gave up his salary to play Deadpool

Actor says he used his own salary to pay for screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to be on set

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters from July 25th as one of the most anticipated productions of the year, but Ryan Reynolds had no idea how successful the franchise would be when he decided to give up his salary just to make the first film, released in 2016, happen.

“They didn’t allow my co-writers Rhett Reese It is Paul Wernick come on set, so I took what little pay I had left and paid them to come on set with me so we could form a real writers’ room.”continued.

He further said that the experience of performing Deadpool it was “a lesson”: “I think one of the great enemies of creativity is too much time and money, and that movie had no time or money. It really promoted a focus on character rather than spectacle, which is a little harder to pull off in a comic book movie.”he explained.

“I was so invested in every little detail of it and I hadn’t felt like that in a long, long time. I remembered wanting to feel that more—not just in Deadpoolbut in anything”he added.
