Just days before his third big screen adventure alongside Wolverine, Deadpool’s success needs no more proof! However, just a decade ago, few believed in the potential of Marvel’s anti-hero.
Indeed, for several years, one of the only people fighting for the project to see the light of day was Ryan Reynolds himself.
He, who already gave the character his features (in a different version that we know today) for the needs of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, actually started writing the project (he did not hesitate to work on it during the filming of Green Lantern) and did everything to His two co-authors, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, were able to work under the best conditions.
“I even gave up on the idea of paying for the movie.”
As he recently recalled at the microphone New York Times (transmission by variety), the interpreter of Deadpool did not hesitate to take a cut of his own salary in order to refine the script of the feature film even during filming, without much hope that his efforts would eventually be rewarded:
“When the Deadpool project was finally approved, no part of me thought it could be successful.”she said.
“I even gave up on the idea of getting paid for the movie, just to get it into theaters. They wouldn’t let my co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick go on set, so I took what little salary I could. I went and paid to have them on the set so we could be a real writing team.”
“It was a lesson in many ways.”
still according to New York TimesRyan Reynolds certainly knew how to use all these limitations and even relied on them to develop his creativity:
“It was a lesson in many ways. I think one of the great enemies of creativity is too much time and too much money, and this movie had neither. It really encouraged us to focus on the character and not the performance, which is very difficult to do in a superhero movie. .
I’ve been so invested in all the micro details of a project, I haven’t felt that way in a long time. I remember wanting to feel more of that, not just for Deadpool, but for everyone else.
