The gendarme gets married: this romantic scene was cut, and maybe it’s better that way

The Gendarme Gets Married tonight at 9.10pm on M6. In this third episode of the saga, directed by Louis de Funes and Michel Galabrue, Chief Marshal Crucho meets Josepha (Claude Gensac), whom he falls in love with and who prompts him to climb the ranks of the Gendarmerie.

A romantic opus, but less than expected

A gendarme is getting married

The saga had the opportunity to have a more romantic aspect, as did a scene involving one of the other gendarmes, which was ultimately cut.

in his creation The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez: Louis de Funes, the story of the sagaSylvain Rajiant says that page 64 of the script contained a scene that was ultimately cut from the third opus of Le Gendarme: Nicole, Crusoe’s daughter (Genevieve Grad) and Fougas (Jean Lefebvre) were allowed to film a scene together:

Fugas and Nicole’s flirtation?

Fugasse explodes in the yard of the gendarmerie, looks surprised. Nicole brings him a pitcher of roses and asks for his opinion on her father. The latter continues to criticize Crusoe, who in this film takes his place as chief warrant officer instead of Gerber. Fugas then asks Nicole why she’s not married and she tells him she’s in no rush and kisses him on the cheek.

A pretty sweet scene, until Crusoe, who witnessed the whole scene, did Fugasse and his daughter. The latter protects Fugas and his father, who is also in a hurry to go to the dance with his new companion Josefa, is merciful and takes the job of emptying Fugas. The latter, overjoyed, brazenly throws his broom, which flies until it hits Gerber right on the butt!

What could have happened?

The scene was either cut at the script stage and not filmed, or it was filmed but never made it into the edit. In any case, the idea of showing a possible flirtation between Genevieve Grad (whose interpreter was 24 years old) and Jean Lefebvre (49 years old) is probably the reason for its deletion. Maybe it was also that in the long run, this connection will not be created between the two characters of the saga?

In any case, The Gendarme Gets Married was a new success in the saga, attracting more than 6.8 million curious people to cinemas. It’s also the No. 2 Gendarmerie best before the first episode (7.8 million) and Gendarmerie and the Extraterrestrial (6.28 million).
