‘We like putting people in boxes in France’: ‘Our Dear Neighbors’ series sticks to Joy Esther’s skin

In an interview with Télé-Loisirs, Joy Esther, who appeared in a special episode of Camping Paradis broadcast on July 15 on TF1, spoke about her career in the cult sitcom Our Dear Neighbors from 2012 to 2017.

Her role as the beautiful neighbor of Chloe Varenko, Issa Doumbia (Isa) and Jean-Baptiste Shelmerdin (Alexis) was celebrated by the public, but also established her as a “comic actor”, despite her background in many dramas on stage.

I have done a lot of theater, but I depend on other people’s wishes. My participation in Our Dear Neighbors has had little effect on me. We like putting people in boxes in France. Even though it’s changing, they put me in the “comedy actress” category and only comedy, and before I only did drama! My character is frozen in time due to endless replays on TV.

After this role (and after some time dance with the stars 2017), so the actress chose to leave the world of television, which only saw her in this type of role, instead dedicating herself to the big screen and the role of a mother from 2022.

Last October, I released the film Enora, directed by Thierry Bourse in which I have the main role. I just finished a movie which is a musical called Babylon, Community Police and produced by Jerome L’Hotsky. I also have a tour in the theater next year. I’m not complaining, I work hard!”, he explained, still in the face of Télé-Loisirs.

That’s enough to prove all his talent, certainly in comedy – and musicals too – but also in drama, quite easily.

You understand, constantly broadcast, Our Dear Neighbors can be regularly seen streaming on TMC or TF1+ while you wait to discover Joy Esther in her new projects.
