Brazilian retirees seek countries with better quality of life to live in

Immigrating requires financial, fiscal and cultural planning.

Summary

Increased life expectancy has made retirement a time to enjoy life and many Brazilians are looking to live abroad. Europe is the most sought after region, with Italy, Portugal and Spain being the best countries for immigration.

With increasing life expectancy and healthy aging, retirement has become a time to enjoy life and enjoy the assets acquired during the working years. As a result, the number of Brazilian retirees living abroad is increasing. Data collected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) shows that approximately 5 million Brazilians live outside the country.

The reasons for leaving Brazil and the places chosen are very different, however they all want the same thing: quality, safety and low cost of living. Internationalist lawyer specialized in migration planning, Rita Silva, explains that before immigrating, many factors must be analyzed.

“Seniors should consider factors such as culture, language, access to medical services and ease of obtaining visas. Another factor to analyze is whether Brazil has bilateral or multilateral agreements with the destination country, as this facilitates tax issues,” he says.

Professional moving consultancy Moving to Spain has published a ranking of the best European countries to retire in. The study analyzed hundreds of opinions and information on the subject. Check out the countries listed:

  1. Portugal
  2. Spain
  3. Italy
  4. Greece
  5. Bulgaria
  6. France
  7. Slovenia
  8. Croatia
  9. Malta
  10. Ireland

Rita Silva explains that to create the ranking, an analysis was carried out on eight determining factors, including the value of real estate (purchase and rental), the ease of obtaining permanent visas in the country, monthly budget, adaptation, access and quality of health services, development, governance and climate.

“The ranking only brought European countries, but all with different cultures and climates. With this it is certainly possible to find a place that meets the needs of the retiree and that has tax breaks with Brazil. It is necessary to inform yourself and inform yourself well before moving abroad, this is why I always talk about the importance of this pension planning already carried out during the working years”, explains the lawyer.

Europe is the most sought after region by Brazilians, due to the ease of adaptation, since here in Brazil we have many immigrant families, and it is also easier to obtain permanent visas. “Another advantage is the ease of movement between countries, since within the European Union it is possible to travel without needing a visa or passport,” says Rita.

Rita Silva lists the best countries as: Italy, Portugal and Spain. “These three countries are the closest to Brazil, we have many descendants of immigrants who already have part of the culture in family traditions. In addition, we share the same language with Portugal, making it easier to adapt. The Spanish health system is also a differentiator for Brazilians, as it is recognized as one of the countries with the best health system in the world, with very accessible public and private services. Italy stands out for its closeness of customs and values to Brazilians”.

Greece and France are also good countries for immigration, despite the difficulty of adapting to the language.

With most European countries, including those mentioned by the lawyer, Brazil has bilateral or multilateral social security agreements, whose main objective is to guarantee the social security rights provided by the laws of both countries to their respective legal workers and dependents, resident or in transit in the country. The Brazil-Italy and Brazil-Portugal agreements provide for the provision of medical care by the public network to insured persons traveling abroad.

“Each agreement has its own particularities and it is important to talk to a specialist, it could be an international lawyer, when planning immigration. Because this professional will help you find the country where you have the greatest tax benefit,” explains Rita.

The request for transfer of the benefit for receiving abroad can be requested by the beneficiary for Bilateral and Multilateral Agreements. In this case the insured must, before the change, request the transfer to the Social Security Institution – APS, where the benefit is maintained.

In addition to all this planning regarding culture, language and taxes. It is also necessary for the immigrant to have a financial reserve.

“Retirees need to have a financial reserve to immigrate safely and be able to remedy any emergency that may arise. It is also important for retirees to know the best way to make the most of their monthly pension, a financial specialist can help at this time,” says Rita Silva.
